Why Women Develop Eating Disorders More than Men
Science has proven that more women get eating disorders than men. It's a darn shame yet it still makes people wonder why that is. There are a few reasons for that. We'll discuss that here in this article.
There are many different types of eating disorders. There is binge eating. There is compulsive eating. There is anorexia. Then, there is also bullemia. Let's begin with a psychological reason that many women get eating disorders. There is one major reason that women tend to get eating disorders. This is because of the fact that women can control eating or not eating. Women often feel that in life, they can't control very much. That is why they then develop these eating disorders to ensure that they can control something. By purging of food or by eating more and more, they are showing that they can eat however much they want or however little they want. In society, men already have all this power. There is also this stipulation in society that women should look a certain way. They should have a big chest as well as be rail thin. Due to this idea, women feel the need to constantly be in battle with their weight. This is where the control comes in. They like to show that they can lose the weight or some stubborn women like to binge eat just to show that they can eat how much they want to eat. For another thing, women have lower self esteem than men. Men can look in the mirror and say yep I'm overweight. They might not be happy about that, but then they do something about it. However, women on the other hand are totally different. They look in the mirror, they see everything that is wrong with herself. She keeps going from there. Most women will try to do something about it. Women also don't know limitations as well as men do. Men know about moderation. However, women don't know when they should stop. They don't have as much control in that area. That is why the eating disorders become what they are. They are compulsive habits that keep women from getting the nutrition that they need in order to survive. Women just don't do all that well when it comes to limitations no matter how often they try. Women are more depressed than men. Most men don't get emotionally annoyed with their weight. Some do, so we aren't implying that they don't. However, more women have depression and eating disorders than men. Women get too emotionally involved. That is how it goes with women. When they say women put their whole heart into it, they really do and they weren't kidding. So, there you have it. These are just some of the reasons that women have more eating disorders than men. There are still many more and many more to be discovered. Scientists are still looking into this and finding out more reasons as this is a really interesting thing to look at.
