There are various fundamental principles, which the zone diet incorporates. First you have to be certain that the meal you are consuming is taking you to the zone. It has to be a right combination of good carbohydrates like fruits and/or vegetables (carbohydrates which are starchy like potatoes or bread are not good), low-fat protein (like lean pork or chicken), and some "good" fat (like olive oil). Dr Sears also suggests having Zone meal within an hour of waking up. It is also beneficial to eat for about 5 times in a day. Also you should not keep your stomach empty for more than 5 hours, even though you don’t feel hunger. This stabilizes the sugar levels in your blood. Drinking 8 glasses of water is another important aspect of this principle. If you get off the track due to any reason, don’t worry and make sure that the next meal you have is zone diet. In zone diet no food is discriminated, and you can eat what you want provided it maintains the right proportion of fat, carbohydrate, and protein. Even wine is allowed because of the fact that it contains a substantial quantity of antioxidants. A very important advantage of a zone diet is that as it is a dietary plan, it does not have any side effects associated with it. Thus one does not have to care about any unnatural problems while opting for this dietary plan in order to loose weight. As no medical help or therapeutic action is taken, the process is slow to show action. That is why many people think that these diet plans are useless. However the actual function of these diet plans is far different than what people think. These diet plans do work but at a comparatively slower rate than the therapeutic or medicinal processes.
