Things to do for preventing kids from getting fat and remain healthy
Seeing that obesity in kids fast moving to epidemic form, it is time to know Things to do to prevent your kids from getting fat. Present statistics indicate 15 % kids are obese and another 15 % are on their way to become obese. It is high time to prevent 15 % on the threshold of obesity to retract back to normality and other 15 % who are already obese be put on a path of effective weight reduction and ensure they have a healthy weight.
This is happening due to drastic changes in the playground scenario. In the past children spent lot of time in the play ground doing jumping activities and participate in other games. Now the play grounds have shrunk and children remain indoor viewing a game on the video munching snacks. Experts' opinion suggests more involvement in videogames, sedentary habits and too much snacks are responsible for obesity in kids in comparison to situation which existed quarter a century back. The extra weight gained can be dangerous signal for correction of the situation. An overweight child means an obese adult in progression with increased chances of heart risk, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, gall bladder involvement and prone to cancer. Following are useful things to do to curb the dangers of overweight complications elicited above: Agree Overweight is Problem to be Tackled: Some times the parents are grossly wrong in not admitting overweight as a problem to be tackled citing many invalid excuses, when it is easy to rectify the problem. Take an advice from your physician and follow the treatment and precautions. Do a Role Model Approach: In case you are taking only health food and regularly going for a walk, it shall be easy for the child to pick up and do what you are doing. Participating in Childs’ Activity: If you want the child to do exercise, the parents must themselves also indulge themselves along with the child to encourage compliance. Throw Away Junk Food Stored in Cupboard: To ensure the compliance of child not to take junk food, the parents need to throw out junk food store in their cup boards and start eating your self healthy food and the children shall automatically follow the suit. One should encourage use of fresh fruits and vegetables in food in place of ice creams, cakes noodles etc. Do not restrict food: Restriction of food causes more temptations, in place if once a month allow the child take little bit of his delicious food in small quantity, where as on other days health food should be offered, which shall make a good habit. Make the child understand that a fresh fruit juice is much better than a shake, hence fruit juice should preferred over shakes. Label Exercise with Physical Activity: People run away from the word exercise, if you say Physical Activity instead of exercise it shall have a better acceptance. Physical activity can be going for a walk after dinner, jumping, playing catching and throwing ball, games with other children. There can be many physical activities at home like cleaning, decorating etc. Pack School Lunch with Healthy Food: It is easy to pack a junk food in the Tiffin for school. Junk food is all fat calories enriched with salt harmful for child, it should be avoided and replaced with only healthy nutritious food. as. Ensure Only Healthy Food Gets Entry in Home: Initially there can be some nodding to the healthy food, but if you are firm and do not bring other than healthy food at home and do not give pocket money to the child to spend on candies etc. ensure the pocket money is spent in your presence. Let Your KID Attend After School Program: Help your child to learn fun activities after school hours, thus his attention shall get diverted to a good creative activities, even participation in school Gyms, Sports etc. It is always good to ensure that the kid is within one’s body weight limits early, but it is never too late to see signal of gaining Weight and make whole hearted decision and do what has not been done in the past. |
