I see a lot of posts here that are only dealing with personal growth through weight loss on a very superficial level: through trying the next diet, eating the "right" foods, and doing the "right" things.
I can say, as someone who had been skinny their entire life until college happened, I did not give a flying anything about gyms, good carbs or bad carbs or whatever until I started to diet. Dieting made me fat through deprivation and masking all of my issues with a worthless accusation that I did not have enough self-control, discipline, willpower, etc. This is the mistake of our culture and it is disempowering to all men and women and everything in between. I am looking here for the folks who know that weight loss and life transformation are about uncovering the motivations as to why we eat more than our bodies biologically signal us to, and ways we can learn to love and accept ourselves in a society that loves to hate fat people. Who's there? What's your story? What have you learned about yourself that you can share with us? |

RE: Real transformation starts inside
This is an interesting spin on this topic, I've never really thought of it that way- probably because I was the heavy individual that lost weight and got into shape. I can see how dieting can make you fat though, stress is one of the causes of weight gain and if your diet is stressing you out it will have the same effect as not dieting.
The reason I got involved with dieting and weight training, and are trying to make a business out of it, is because I lost my career due to the dwindling economy so I was forced into making some lifestyle changes. I had no insurance so if something happened to me I was in trouble. It was at that point that I cleaned up my diet, and started looking for smarter ways to train. The onset of my business was trying to develop a plan so simple that individuals like yourself wouldn't get so stressed out from dieting that it would cause you to gain weight. I will say that I have never used this tool on a superficial level, and I can see how our culture puts the physically elite on a pedestal. This is why professional athletes make millions and teachers make thousands I've never gone to the gym out of spite for a group or individual. I do it to see how far I can push myself, but I know a fair share of people that go to the gym and diet to prove someone wrong, or to try and 'win' someone back. The one thing that I have learned from all of the dieting and training I've done is that I won't sacrifice anything or anyone to stop doing what I'm doing. The bottom line is you have to find what makes you happy. If you enjoy dieting and training then do it, if you enjoy eating whatever you want then eat whatever you want. The beautiful part about that what makes you happy can change. That is what life is all about, finding what makes you happy- that is the most important thing I've learned from all of this. |
