Importance of Healthy Eating for our Body
The longer I live the less confidence I have in drugs and the greater is my confidence in the regulation and administration of diet and regimen.
– John Redman Coxe, 1800 Keeping a watch over what you eat in order to become healthy does not mean that you starve yourself. We have mixed up both concepts. Whenever we are told that we need to watch our weight and control what we eat we think that we will have to give up eating; we will have to eat boiled food and we will be unable to eat our favourite foods. Well that is not the case when we are suggested to eat healthy. Eating healthy points towards regulating our diet; incorporating healthy foods that will be useful and beneficial for our bodies and giving up foods that produce toxins in the body, add fat in our bodies and create havoc inside of us. A balanced diet is suggested for people of all ages and genders in order you remain healthy. When you take a balanced meal you bring in variety and moderation in your meals. According to recent research your body needs more than 40 nutrients that are good for health and this cannot be derived from one single food item. A person needs to include carbohydrate, fruits, vegetables, dairy products like milk, eggs and cheese, a little bit of protein, meat, fish etc. however keeping in mind that these need to be taken in moderation, watch the amount you eat. Eat everything but in little quantities. If you keep an eye on the amount you consume you will never have to give up eating at all on the contrary you will eat whatever is available but in small quantities. This has two benefits, firstly you will not feel deprived and secondly your body would get the nutrition it needs to function properly. It is advised that you eat regularly as starving yourself leads to more trouble. Usually people skip meals. They don’t eat breakfast or they don’t eat lunch or dinner. This is quite dangerous as skipping meals would make you hungrier and then you may consume more than you have to thus resulting in overeating. Reducing the amount is suggested by doctors and dieticians not eliminating the food from your diet. The successful way is to make sure your meal contains all the essential nutrients and you eat by exercising self control. For example you like pizza and can consume three large slices, if you are watching your diet, don’t give up pizza, rather eat one slice and have the rest of it packed or share it with your partner, friend or sibling. Another important factor is that you learn to create a balance in your consumption. If by chance you consume one type of food in excess make sure you balance it out by reducing the amount of other food items. For example if you have had heavy lunch try and have a simple supper/dinner. Your food should follow a healthy route. Our life hangs in a balance and it is important we maintain that balance. The way excess of everything is bad similarly over indulgence is no good either. Your meal should include the essential minerals, vitamins, fats and carbohydrates and yet you should not go overboard. Everything that nature has to offer us has its advantages and we just have to select the food items that are good for our consumption and will not harm us. The way to keep balance is to differentiate between good and bad food. If you reduce the bad foods from your diet for example, fried food, excessive sugar, baked items and sodas and soft drinks and replace them by fruits, vegetables; you will see a marked difference in your health. Drink lots of water. Drinking water not only flushes your system and your kidneys but it also gives you a fresh look, your skin becomes and looks healthier. Eating healthy and bringing a change in your lifestyle isn’t difficult at all. You just need to be motivated enough to bring that change. Gandhi said, “You must be the change you want to see in the world”. Start now bring that change in you, change your diet, bring a positive change in your lifestyle and you will see a revolutionizing change within yourself and your surroundings. |
