Pregnancy And Weight Gain
Being pregnant opens up a world unseen and often unprepared for. With the bliss of bearing a growing baby in the womb, comes the concern of health of both the child and mother. During pregnancy many women are confounded by the abrupt biological changes that they come to face suddenly over a short period of time. If not predisposed to see the unseen, the mother would be astounded by the weight gain that occurs during pregnancy.

Unlike many other causes of obesity, weight gain during pregnancy stands totally justified as it is required for the growing baby. Mostly, the weight does not pose a problem for the would-be mother, but if weight gain gets severe then it could be harmful for the mother and the baby as well. A severe weight gain could have serious implications on the health of mother after the delivery. The problem of weight gain during pregnancy must be dealt with utmost care and precision since it must not at any point of time compromise on the quality of food that mother eats in order to avoid gaining weight.

The weight gain in the first trimester is not significantly noticeable. Only a few pounds add during this period as the baby is in the very initial stage. The major portion of the weight gain is spread during the last two trimesters when the body adapts to provide for the baby and thus structure itself accordingly. Generally, during this period weight accrues at a rate of about one pound per week. If weight gain is more than what your physician deems correct then you must take steps to ensure that further weight is not put on. Studies suggest that severely obese women are more likely to give birth to children with a heart defect. Thus it becomes all the more important to keep weight gain under control during this period.

There is not much to be done during pregnancy to keep a tab on the weight except for eating sensibly and consistently. In order to keep you physically active mild exercises under supervision can be done. Keep in mind that the food you eat should first meet the nutrient standards prescribed by your physician for a healthy growth. Consuming food that comes from all the major food groups would make sure that you get all the necessary nutrients. Try to have five portions of fruit and vegetables each day since his would keep you full and not add harmful fat to the body that could have caused obesity. Eating for two does not connote eating twice your daily portion of food, but effectively adding just a few hundred more calories a day. The quality of food you consume is of more importance than the quantity. Since very less scope of workout is possible during pregnancy, you must make sure that you do not consume any type of junk food full of cheese and fizz and instead have nutrient dense food.

Maintain a balance of the various food groups while making sure that the calories are consumed in the best possible form of food. Losing the weight put on during pregnancy could be a tough task in the first few months, so target to avoid putting on any unnecessary fat in the first place. Do not be perplexed at a changed figure; go through this enjoyable phase embracing the changes that are characteristic to pregnancy and consistently keep control of your health all along.
