Ways to Express Your Emotions
Emotions can drive a person nuts and that can lead some people into doing some pretty interesting things. For some, it causes them to seek the comfort of foods. They reach for their favorite candy bars. They turn the television on to their favorite show and eat themselves into a state of oblivion. For others, they go to their favorite restaurant while others tend to cook something.
To work with this, one should find ways to express their emotions. There are a number of ways to do so. When you express yourself and let the anger or whatever feelings you are feeling, then you won't feel the need to have to go and seek comfort with food. So, to help you with this, we have found a few other healthy ways that you can let off some steam or express your emotions so you don't seek the counsel of food. One of the first things that you can do is you can go about and get yourself a journal. This way you can write down everything that happened. You don't have to sugarcoat anything. You can express in detail what you are feeling so that you know your words are being heard. This can be a great thing if you are the type that will normally take these words and vent to your best friend over some indulgent food. Another thing that you can try is you can try art. If you aren't good with words, maybe you are good at pottery or sculpting. Funnel some of those emotions onto something that you might be able to turn into something. Then, you could even get some money if the work is of good quality. Many people don't think like this. For some, just getting away can help them take their mind off things. Get a trip to the mall but limit how much money you have on yourself. This way you can focus more on the walking aspect of it all. This is very good work. There is always something else you can do. Some people choose to meditate. When they meditate, they can channel all their energy and get control of those emotions. Since stress is what eats us alive and causes us to reach for the sugary things of life, meditation has been known to relieve us of all that stress. You might want to consider this. Once you learn to really look at those emotions and temper down the stress, then you will have a controlling hold over your compulsive eating. Many people don't think like this, but it's true. If you look at why you eat you will find this to be true of you too. Food doesn't have to control you. You are supposed to control it and controlling the way you think is one of the areas in which most people have to start with. It's just as simple as that.
