Breakfast eating recommendations for people trying to lose weight
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should never be skipped. Many studies have shown that eating breakfast is a healthy habit and can also help lose weight.

Many people skip breakfast thinking they are saving calories. But skipping breakfast means depriving the body of the necessary energy and nutrients for about 18 hours. This causes weakness and increased hunger during the morning, and can lead to food cravings and overeating throughout the rest of the day, potentially increasing one’s risk of gaining weight and becoming overweight or obese.

Fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and low-fat protein foods are the best food choices for a healthy, low-fat breakfast. They provide the body with the necessary energy and nutrients to undertake morning activities, without adding unnecessary bad fats (such as trans fatty acids and saturated fatty acids found in whole milk dairy products) or refined sugars and carbohydrates (such as those found in breads, sugary cereals and cookies).
Fruit, vegetables and whole grains are high-fiber foods that have very low energy density and make feel full longer, while low-fat dairy products and low-fat protein foods are a great source of essential amino acids required for a variety of metabolic functions.

Choosing one or two options from each food category is a great way to get a filling, healthy breakfast. For example, some healthy breakfast options are: cooked oatmeal with fruit (apples, peaches or blueberries), whole-wheat crackers with peanut butter or low-fat cheese, multigrain pancakes with fruit and low-fat yogurt. These are only some specific examples of quick, healthy breakfast options, but, with a pinch of creativity, options may also become unlimited.
Although it is known that eating a healthy breakfast can help lose weight and maintain weight loss, there are many people who think they have not enough time to make it or don’t like to eat in the morning.

First of all, having no time is not an excuse. Breakfast does not need to be elaborate. A healthy quick breakfast may be, for example, whole-grain cereal or whole-grain toast, with fresh fruit and light yogurt or low-fat milk. This is a simple, delicious breakfast, that does not require much time.
The issue of “not liking to eat in the morning” is somewhat more difficult to address than the issue of “not enough time to make breakfast”. The first step to change breakfast eating habits, is to just make breakfast, whether or not you like to eat in the morning. This only requires a small effort. Over time you will start to wake up feeling hungry and you will learn to appreciate having breakfast.

So, if you want to lose weight and maintain weight loss, do not skip your breakfast. Saving calories by skipping breakfast makes more harm than good. You will be more hungry later and you will eat more, thereby adding unnecessary calories to your daily requirements. On the contrary, eating a healthy low-fat breakfast will make you feel full and satisfied longer and you will not fall into the temptation of snaking or overeating throughout the day.
